The 2017 Development Board
For more than 100 years, the University of Texas Medical Branch has represented an excellent return on investment to the people of Texas and beyond, providing a diverse and highly skilled health care work force, advancing understanding and treatment of illness and injury, and providing top-flight primary and advanced medical care. In short, UTMB has helped define Texas medicine for well over a century.
Although Hurricane Ike dealt the Galveston campus a tremendous blow, the storm also resulted in renewed and expanded awareness of UTMB and its many contributions to the health and well-being of its home community, the region at large and the state as a whole. We have come a long way, and our resilience is a reflection of our long history of serving the people of Texas. UTMB is well on its way to becoming an even stronger institution than before Ike.
A bright future awaits us. To realize our vision, we continue to prioritize programmatic investments in order to make the most of the many opportunities that exist, and we continue to be innovative in all aspects of how we approach our mission. We also continue working to expand the reach of our clinical expertise to benefit fellow health care providers and patients alike.
Development Board members play a key role in UTMB’s efforts to broaden its base of philanthropic support by serving as local, regional, national and international ambassadors who share the good news of the extraordinary work taking place at the university.
UTMB is strengthened when community leaders dedicate their time, talents and expertise to advancing health care, education and research. The Development Board is a valuable partner in this effort. Each of us can and do make a difference through our involvement, adding our own personal touch to the future of health care. As a board, we can help the university seize unprecedented opportunities as we support Dr. Callender and his team in their work to improve the health of Texas—and society as a whole.
